Here's the catalogue for Little Pearl Books. I've been illustrating for them since May 2011 and I'm almost done with the 12th book for their Fairy Tales series. Here's a link to see the books. The site is still fairly new and the publisher is hard at work producing more material so it may be a few months until everything is up.

Once in a blue moon I actually have time to sketch for the fun of it. Here's a few of my most recent sketches. Some of these have been done with Wacoms Inkling Sketch pen since I've been playing with it and it's programs. But that's enough sketching for now. I'm currently trying to finish up some paintings for Little pearl Books fairy Tale collection. It's a series of twelve 24 page books but I'm finally on the last book. There is a light at the end of the tunnel... though I think this light just has more work for me when I meet it.

Fearless Faith and the Water

Here's the second book in the Fearless Faith series. Fearless Faith and the Water. I finished illustrating this book awhile ago and I'm working on the third now. I'll be finishing up work on a bunch of projects and hopefully be able to show some work here before I have my second son due February 18th. Crying baby, lack of sleep, and messy toddlers make it hard to get work done. I'll be back to painting as soon as I can get more than 5 hours of sleep at night. That or I'll give my toddler a crayon and post his work.

Fearless Faith

Here's the first book in the Fearless Faith series by Rachel J. Newmark, Fearless Faith and the New School. The book is going through the process of being self published through create space and will be available in multiple online locations by the end of the year.

This is the cover I illustrated with all the fun text and markings that will be on the printed book. I also illustrated the interior pages and am currently working on the next book in the series, Fearless Faith and the water.
Sadly, I have had no time to pursue personal projects since I've been so busy with freelance work and family. Maybe next year their will be more colorful illustration to post here.

Just finished illustrating Fearless Faith and the New School. The book should be published and out by the end of the year. I'll be working on more books in the series in the next couple of months. Once it's published I'll show a couple pages.

Here's an illustration I did for little Pearl Books that I can show. I'm currently illustrating a series of children s stories for them. This one is from the tale Pinocchio.

I've been busy with freelance work and I haven't been able to post anything new here. My latest work was a piece done for Barbaras Basement, a short story I illustrated for a magazine. I should be able to post the comic I did for Hinduism Today's July/August/September Issue in a bit. other than that all my time has been going to illustrating childrens books and of course rising my son. He's now one year old, walking, and starting to talk! My life is filled with colorful toys, singing objects, and paintings.

Binding:
Most books were sewn with waxed linen thread in the ancient Coptic binding style, which allows the stitching to become a decorative element on the spine. Pages lay flat when open for easy journaling or sketching.

Papers:
The interior pages are high quality acid free sketching papers.

Milestones

I've been working on handmade Journals and books lately. The most recent ones are to be used as baby books. To go along with the journal I painted some cute images of babies reaching their milestones. The first is a newborn baby swaddled in a receiving blanket and the other posted here is a baby who just learned to sit. My 3 month old son has quite a lot to do with the baby inspired projects. Once I finish the boy babies maybe I'll go on to do girl versions.

It's been awhile since I've posted anything new. I've been busy caring for my newborn son and haven't had as much time to work on any projects or paintings. That and moving twice in the last few months put a lot on hold. My latest painting here is of Captain Bob, he's a school Bus driver and a teacher of drivers ed. This picture was requested by his Son.

I've been looking at way too many baby accessories with simplified animal graphics. Hours of my time have been used to search through the Babies r us website looking for nursery colors and themes I like. It inspired me to paint this chicken and dragon. A bit of a mis matched pair but still very cute.

Here's a few ads I designed to go in Target Audience Magazine. Bob Renaud's woodburnings are quite impressive. My favorite one would be the one of elvis which is why I choose that image to go in the ad. I included the other woodburnings to show he does much more than just portraits and rock stars. Brian Taylor is a fine artist showing his work in the Atlanta area. I'm not too familiar with what he does so I kept this ad as simple as I could.

The cover of the Burning hotels made for an eye catching design. I love how the legs hang from the top and the busts of the band appear at the bottom. It's almost as if they were cut in half.

Valentine

It's February 14th and to celebrate Valentines day I made Angel food cupcakes.

Ingredients

• 1 1/4 cups all purpose flour
• 1 1/2 cups sugar
• 12 egg whites from large eggs ( enough for 1 1/2 cups)
• 1 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
• 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Angel Food Cupcake Recipe Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line cupcake pans with paper liners.

Place egg whites in a large mixing bowl and beat at high speed until egg whites are frothy, approximately 1 minute.

Add cream of tartar, salt and vanilla to egg whites. Mix at high speed until egg whites are almost stiff, approximately 4 minutes.

Add 1 cup of sugar gradually while mixing on low speed. Scrape bowl.

Mix flour and remaining 1/2 cup sugar together and spoon 1/4 of mixture over egg whites, folding gently between each addition.

Pour batter into cupcake liners until they are 2/3 full. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until tops are golden brown and cracks are very dry.

Cool cupcakes completely before removing from pan.

Last September 5th I displayed four of these paintings at the Doo Gallery in Atlanta. They are one of a kind 11 by 17 prints. I'm not printing these images this size anymore so once these sell that's it. I am still selling 8.5x11 prints of these images though. Two of these five prints have been sold. My latest project concerning Children's Books has to do with reptiles and amphibians. Here's my lizard. I can picture this image sitting next to facts about lizards in an educational childrens book. I want to do a whole book on reptiles and amphibians. I'm tempted to throw a page about dragons in there just to mess with everyone. (disclaimer about dragons existing at the bottom) What good is learning if you're not having fun?

This was a painting I've been working on throughout the month of August. I started it to be a part of one of the monthly challenges on the Imagine FX website. I love that magazine. Anyway, I posting this as my response to the topic out from the white. I feel sorry for those poor poor rain drops... don't worry rain drops your life may have been short but it wasn't in vain! Good crops and plants will use that water to grow! Yeah, I'm talking to my paintings now.

Of lately I've been working on a lot of things for Target Audience Magazine. The first is a calendar details are below and on the flier I made.
Target Audience needs artists to submit artwork for each of the twelve months. Each Artists may submit up to three entries.
One work will be picked per month to be printed with the calendar

Finally got around to posting the sketches I drew during the honeymoon. The waterfall in anna ruby falls. One of the sketches is part of a park in Helen GA. the drawing with the long staircase was a scene I saw on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway. It's a train that travels between the town of Blue Ridge and McCaysville Ga / Copperhill Tn. McCaysville and Copperhill are twin cities located next to each other. The border of Georgia and Tennessee separate the two cities.
The last drawing is from Duck town Tn. It's an abandoned stairwell next to the copper mine museum. Needless to say we drove all over the place.

I'm back from the mountains and country living. I took hundreds of photos to use for reference in future illustrations. Mountains, hills, rocks, trees, waterfalls, and plenty of abandoned buildings. Didn't have time to finish all the paintings I wanted to but I've got a few pages of sketches to upload as soon as I scan them.
there are a lot of beautiful views driving around in the mountains. Now it's time to get back to work on my projects.
The photo above was taken at the Anna Ruby Falls in the Chattahoochee National Forest. It marks the junction of the Curtis and York Creeks. The creeks travels through the Unicoi Lake to the Chattahoochee River. The water continues going south until it joins the Appalachicola River in Florida which takes it to the gulf of Mexico.

I haven't had a chance to post much due to just moving to Georgia and trying to plan a wedding three weeks away but I'm still creating art. Here's a few magazine layouts I did in Adobe Indesign. The layouts were used for the first two Issues of Target Audience Magazine and then redesigned for the third issue. I use Indesign to create all my pdf files and Adobe photoshop to create the graphic elements. The images for Hearing Red and the Newspaper like layout were created by me as well. I had to create a lot of the images that went into the magazine.

This is an image from the book Beyond the Eyes I've finally had time to color. It's all about the dead roses contrasting the blooming baby's breath. There's a lot of hidden meaning in these images that are made much more clear when one has a chance to read the poems they ar inspired by.

Ringling Senior Illustration Show

Here's a glimpse of the illustrations I'll be showing at the senior show at Ringling. It's why I haven't had a chance to post much the last few months. All these illustrations can be found in my book, Behind the Eyes. Only the black and white versions is available at the moment.

This is the poster the Ringling Illustration class of 2009 worked so hard to make. One of my random sketches of a girl sitting at her desk got in on the front og the poster and my self portrait is on the back with the rest of the Illustration class.

Beyond the Eyes

Opening Night of the Senior Illustration show will be held May 1st 6-9pm at Ringling College of Art and Design. The show lasts until may 4th in Bayou studio 3,4 and the exhibition hall. I'll be in the center of Bayou 3 displaying a hard copy of my book (images below) along with some framed full color paintings. If you're in town feel free to stop by. I may have a few books to sell if the shipment comes in on time.

For the last six months I've been creating Illustrations to go into this 52 page book. Above is a preview of the first few pages, the front cover, and the back. The book consists of 16 poems each accompanied by at least one illustration. The book is for sale on Lulu

It's been awhile but here's a realistic figure. The concept behind this is he's an Indian who's spirit animal is a Badger. Takas here also has a Badger familiar named Tagua. There's an entire story behind the two although it was developed at 3 am so it's a bit out there.

It was easier to paint a picture of my fiance and I than schedule a meeting with a photographer. This is for our wedding invitations that will have to be sent out in a month or two.

Here's the original sketch I did. Lately I've been doing all my sketches for images digitally so it was refreshing to go back to the old pencil and paper. Once things calm down I can't wait to get a few more watercolor paintings done.

My Portrait for Ringling's Senior Illustration poster. The poster will be advertising the show where we display our senior projects. It'll be May 1st at the Ringling College of Art and Design. I'll be showing illustrations for a 32 page poetry book.

Self Portrait Process

First I sketch out the portrait in pencil on card stock. Then I scan it into the computer and colorize the lines in adobe photoshop.

Here I block out the colors on a different layer so I can click the line layer off and on at will. I continue rendering the image until the colors and value are clear without the lines.

Last of all, I make the lines visible again and finish any issues with the color. I didn't like the whole floating in space look so I added a light background just to give a bit more interest.
